Rainbow Scrap Quilt – Finished

Well, I didn’t think it would be this long before I shared a quilt on here. Rest assured I have been quilting! I just haven’t been sharing a lot here or over on Instagram.

Although it would be nice if quilting was my full-time job, it unfortunately is not and is just a hobby. My actual job has taken a lot of time recently and I haven’t been able to spend as much time on all of my quilting stuff that I would like. I’m trying to change that.

So with that said, let’s get to the quilt I’m sharing today.

This quilt top was tucked away waiting to be finished for many years. I looked back and I originally wrote about it in 2017.

It’s quite large and needed a lot of backing fabric so I think that’s part of why it took so long, but I’ll get to the backing in a minute. First, let’s talk about the front of the quilt.

This quilt is all scraps and follows my ROYGBIV theory, which is the acronym to remember the colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo and Violet.

My theory is that you can use any fabric, and any shade of fabric, as long as you put them in rainbow order. It works every time!

It’s one of the best ways to use your scraps while still having a beautiful finished quilt. But now onto the back.

If I’m being honest, I don’t love the purple backing fabric. It’s fine, but it’s not something I would buy. It’s a long story but I ended up with a large amount of this fabric. I don’t typically use a lot of this color purple fabric, but it complemented the rainbow front so I went with it.

I did need to piece the backing so I used more scraps to create the checkerboard strip.

All in all, I’m happy with the quilt and I’m glad to have this one finished.

I’m also glad to be back here with a new post! I’ll try not to make the next one take so long.
