As we close out November and officially enter the holiday season, it’s time for my annual holiday gift guide. As per usual, it includes quilting things, quilting inspired things, and non-quilting things that are just fun or useful. Some of these items are more of a splurge and others make great stocking stuffers. I try to include a mix of gifts at different price points that not only do I like and use, but also have on my own wish list this year.
Without further ado, the 2024 Brooklyn Quilting Co. Holiday Gift Guide:
I love and own Patterns of India by Christine Chitnis, and her latest book, Patterns of Portugal, is just as beautiful and on my wish list. It’s packed full of color and pattern inspiration that any quilter will love.
When I saw Heather Ross released Ironing Board Covers I knew I had to add one to my gift guide. If we have to spend time ironing fabric, we might as well make it cute.
In addition to being a quilter I am also a puzzler! Every Christmas break I work on a puzzle and it’s my favorite holiday activity. I have this Sewing Box Puzzle and it’s very cute at only 500 pieces. You might also try this 500-piece Crazy Quilts puzzle. But if you’re up for a more of a challenge, the Common Quilt Blocks puzzle has 1,000 pieces and looks like so much fun.
While we may not want to admit it, a 12 Pack of Seam Rippers in our stocking will always come in handy. I don’t know about you, but I’m constantly losing, breaking or wearing out my seam ripper so it’s nice to have extras on hand.
Seam rippers are a dime a dozen, but any quilter or sewist knows a nice pair of Shears are like gold and NOBODY BETTER TOUCH THEM! These are from Jo-Ann’s and are currently on sale for Black Friday.
I’m mostly a coffee drinker but on occasion I do enjoy a cup of tea. The Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea is so good and perfect for an afternoon tea break.
On last year’s holiday gift guide, I included a few items from the special Marks & Spencer collection at Target. It’s back again this year with some new items and I couldn’t help but include them again. I think the entire collection is adorable and make such great gifts. They have food gifts of very cute tins with shortbread cookies or chocolates, but I also love the Reusable Shopping Bag or the Blue and White Mug that would pair well with the Good Earth Sweet & Spicy tea.
If you’re like me, you spend a lot of time on your phone keeping up with your favorite quilting accounts on Instagram (you can find me @brooklynquiltingco). Keep your phone looking chic with this Woven Cell Phone Case. It’s available in a variety of colors.
A pair of Chelsea Boots are on my wish list this year. They’re practical for walking around the city but also chic enough to wear to work or out to dinner.
An elegant and working Umbrella is not something you need everyday, but when you need it you need it. I love this British-made one that looks great and works great.
I’m a sucker for a bow, and these Leather Bow Gloves are so cute. Plus, I think holding your new umbrella with these gloves would make a great match.
It wouldn’t be a Brooklyn Quilting Co. gift guide without a fabric collection included. This year, the Ruby + Bee Solids Fat Quarter Box is my pick. It’s pricey, but having a rainbow of solids in your quilting stash will always come in handy.
After a day hunched over my sewing machine, there’s nothing better than a hot bath to ease the aches and pains in my back and shoulders. I keep a bag of Dr. Teal’s Pink Himalayan Mineral Soak in my bathroom and not only does it smell great, but the Epsom salt is an added bonus.
And while you’re at it, an Exfoliating Body Brush is a nice addition to your Dr. Teal’s Epsom salt.
And finally, I have a confession to make. I am addicted to chap stick. I have been for years and my favorite is Burt’s Bees beeswax lip balm. It has vitamin E and peppermint and I never leave home without it. It’s available in other flavors but I like sticking to the original.
That’s it for my 2024 Holiday Gift Guide. I hope you found something for yourself or for someone you love. Wishing you a very merry holiday season.
