Signature Series – Blue and Gray

Today I’m sharing the latest colorway of my Signature Series baby quilts with this blue and gray version. I love this pattern and have had a lot of fun experimenting with different color combinations when using it. The pattern is so versatile for mixing colors and makes a great modern statement in a baby’s nursery.

When I was putting this together, I moved the different colors around to see what I liked best and finally landed on this.

For the back of the quilt, I used a gray polka dot fabric.  The gray in the polka dots matches the gray fabric on the front of the quilt.

I had a little bit of navy fabric in my stash with tiny white stars on it that works perfectly for the binding.

Signature Series – Atlanta Baby

It’s March, and what better way to begin March than with a new quilt?  Today I’m sharing a baby quilt that is a version of my Signature Series baby quilts I introduced last year.  I designed this pattern with the intent of making many versions of it because it is so versatile.  I love this one!

This baby quit is extra special because it wasn’t made for a client but for a friend of mine in Atlanta.  Before I moved to New York, I spent almost six years living in Atlanta.  I moved there for my job – not straight out of college but pretty close – and I did not know one single person.  As many of us do, I became great friends with one of my co-workers.  We were both just beginning our careers and ended up spending many hours, at work and outside of work, together.  Now, so many years later, we are still friends today.

My Atlanta friend Allison and her husband are expecting their second child and it’s a girl!  A few weeks ago she sent me her nursery colors with the direction of a peachy pink color, light aqua, super light gray, with accents of black and white.  I can work with that, so I used the Signature Series to incorporate all of those colors.

I think my favorite part of this quilt is the black and white polka dot binding.  It is the perfect finishing touch, and since I love polka dots, there’s that.

This baby quilt is now in its new home in Atlanta and we are all awaiting the arrival of its owner.

Signature Series

Here at Brooklyn Quilting Co. I get a number of requests for baby quilts, and for a while I’ve been thinking about a new design to switch things up a bit. I wanted something modern, bold and graphic looking, yet simple.  I also wanted something that really speaks to my design aesthetic.  This is what I came up with.

It’s inspired by my favorite quilt, Inman Park.  I had the idea a few months ago to take the design from Inman Park and blow it up to make it one baby-sized quilt.  From the start I thought it would look good with solids to keep that simple design that I was aiming for.

I also went with a solid colored back for this quilt. I did think about using a print for the back, and really considered a print for the binding, but in the end I stuck with my initial instinct and kept it simple.

I’m not, however, married to keeping the Signature Series solids only. It could work really well to use a print on the back and coordinating solids on the front.  Maybe eventually I will even try using different prints throughout the quilt, but for now I really love the modern look of the solids.

As I was finishing this quilt up, I realized it could also work well as a wall hanging. Now I’m not really one who goes for quilt wall hangings – it’s just not my thing – but this might be an exception.  It’s a perfect size and could be fun for a baby nursery.

What do you think of my new Signature Series baby quilt? I have a million color combinations that I am itching to add to the collection.  Time to get sewing!
